ProviderHub

ProviderHub is a mobile-first application for nephrologists to make and document clinical decisions for patients with chronic kidney disease.

Problem: Providers struggled to prioritize patients while they were in the clinic. They were unable to tell how long the patient had left to finish treatment and how much time they had left to spend with the patient. This needed to be approached with APIs directly to the application on the dialysis chair. We also needed to rethink the entire approach to how the application was serving not just as a way to document, but as a way to actually perform “rounds.”

The data was going to be pulled from a new source. We still needed to keep our current patient list that was sorted alphabetically while the new data was going to be sorted by day, shift and time remaining. To understand this I met with the dev team early right away grasp what the challenges were going to be and how I could approach some solutions..

The first challenge was the current navigation. The three button design was not going to be technically feasible with the two data sources.  With the new concept I finally might be able to convince product we could make some changes there too.

The new design removed the shift buttons and reduced the size. I left them as we didn’t want to shock our users this left 2 ways to navigate to the rounding list and the patient census list and introduced the 4 new 4 button navigation at the bottom of the page.

Job to Be Done:
When managing patient care in a clinic, a provider needs to efficiently view and prioritize which patients to see, understand how much time each patient has remaining in the chair, and document visits accurately so they can provide timely care and maintain comprehensive records. The Rounding  time management for nephrologists, a new system has been implemented to optimize patient prioritization. By clearly defining patient shifts, the updated list shows both current and prior shift patients, alongside their remaining treatment time. This approach enables providers to identify those needing immediate attention and facilitates real-time discussions about care while patients receive treatment. The solution ensures better visibility of patient statuses, allowing for more efficient rounding and improving overall clinic workflow.
